As soon as Newton native, Amy Hahn Heller, opened The Finer Consigner in 2000, the store
immediately became a Mecca for savvy shoppers with a passion for designer clothing.
Heller fills her cozy Newton Center boutique with chic clothing and luxurious accessories. On any
given day, one might find a Chanel jacket, a Prada skirt, Hermes scarves in their orange boxes, or
luxury handbags bags such as Gucci, Chanel, YSL, or Balenciaga all priced at a fraction of the
original cost.
Customers often stop daily to chat and to see what new merchandise has been consigned. Heller
and her staff know their customers' favorite designers, sizes and wish lists. Helping customers build a
wardrobe or coordinate an outfit is their specialty. They will call when the handbag of your dreams
has just been consigned, or the Manolo Blahnik or Louboutin you've been searching for has just
come in.
Recycling expensive clothing works equally as well for the consigner. Many fashionistas don't want
to be seen in the same outfit twice; others have a full closet, and must consign to make room for
new trends. Sometimes there are the pricey mistakes - heels too high to walk in, or a skirt that just
doesn't look right. Heller says, "One person's expensive mistake is another's extraordinary find."
